Students Chant "Assassinate Obama" on School Bus

REXBURG - In the aftermath of last week's election of Barack Obama as President of the United States, some grade school students in an eastern Idaho town chanted "assassinate Obama," as they rode the school bus.

The Madison School District says it happened last week with a group of second- and third-grade students. A district spokesperson says most of them didn't understand the meaning of the word "assassinate."

My response: Who teaches their kid to do this when they don't even know the meaning of what they are doing?

Rexburg is located in Madison County - which overwhelmingly voted for John McCain in the recent election, and is known as one of the state's most conservative communities.

KIDK-TV reports the students also added the name of a student on the bus to the chant.

My response: First Obama, then a classmate? I hope those brats were expelled from school and taken away from their obviously abusive parents and given to "loving, caring families".

The district's superintendent e-mailed district employees Friday -- with a reminder that words like "kill" and "assassinate" are taken seriously. Superintendent Geoffrey Thomas reminded employees that using such language can carry sanctions. The superintendent also stressed tolerance of different political viewpoints.

My response: The superintendent should also stress that the parents of these future hooligans attend parenting classes and learn how to raise good citizens of the United States. Lord knows we already have enough morons.

I guess I was thinking his constituents, in this case, may not have thought an apology was warranted but I guess it could be a Republican or Democratic thing. The kids probably won't be electing a mayor for a few years.

I can, but I won't. No matter how you define the word, (in some places it means "monkey" in others a denigrating term for a black person) it was racist in the way George Allen used it.

Nope! That's not what I was trying to say.

I voted for Obama, but I sure don't think he's The Messiah. Evidently neither was George Bush, even though a lot of conservatives thought he was chosen by God to be president, including Bush himself, or at least that's what he once told televangelist James Robison, remember?

Bush to Robison: "I feel like God wants me to run for president." [and] " I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it."

Thus far, Obama has not openly revealed to the American public whether or not God instructed or advised him to run for president. Maybe he's waiting til after he's sworn in to do that. I'm having a had time imagining Obama showing up on the 700 Club to drop that one on us.

Many conservative Christians claimed that George Bush getting elected was a "miracle." So I'm thinking this Obama thing might just be a real miracle straight from God's headquarters up in heaven, only it's a nice Democrat miracle as opposed to just another one of those GOP televangelist style pseudo-miracles.

I'd feel happy if it was niether and God is really just staying out of politics. An eternity of politics is not something I would look forward to in a place where it would seem it's value would not be appreciated. Of course, I'll probably be with the politicians so I may have that to look forward to anyway.
