History is a social science. It can not be examine in a test tube but it does reveal tendencies in human nature that repeat themselves in every generation.

Well the patterns of history are based on the patterns from mob behavior (the sum of the psychology of a mass of people), random happenings in nature (Little Ice Age indirectly leading to religious hysteria and revolution) and the the particularities of cultures and controlling elites. There are patterns, but like the science of fluids, I don't think that that history is even close to totally predictable. Chaos mathematics would say that subtle changes can make for amplified and unpredictable results within the patterns of history.

Of course History can not be predicted that someting will happen next year . As Lawmage said it is best for a longer time scale.
However anyone who reads history will see many repititions. Our society anf thought patterns are not much different to the times of Plato or the Roman Empire.

In some ways we are more influenced by them , than advances in science.
