Oh Lord, one of my great irrational peeves...Hillary Rodham Clinton. Not because she chooses to call herself that, but because it keeps changing back and forth depending on the circumstances.

It does seem rather ludicrous for anyone in public life to alter their name, fluctuating back and forth between versions of it. It would be like Bill Clinton calling himself and being referred as "William Clinton" while doing appearances North of the Mason Dixon line, then switching to Billy Jeff Clinton in the South.

[Hillary] has the right to call herself Hedy Lamarr if she wants to.

Hmmm! Now that I think about it, it makes more sense for Bill to call himself Hedley Lamarr.

. o O (Let's see who, besides Dax, gets that one)

Nono--I GOT it, big guy. It just wasn't funny. :smirk:

The US is pretty conservative socially compared to other more developed economies, but the broad mass of independents, centrists and moderates of both sides are fed up with the extremists of either right wing stripe.

I was bitterly disappointed by McCain's pandering to the further right making Bloomberg look like a better centre right bet, in retrospect.

My initial reaction was to be horrified...but I'm now wondering if it could end up as a masterstroke...it certainly seems to be a gamble, an unwarranted one at that.

Further to the above, Geithner for Treasury and Daschle for Health are positive appointments.

RNG, the stock market shot up in response to this appointment...

Another one:
Craig's not Clinton's foreign connections raises questions.

Greg Craig, Obama's choice for WH counsel, has an interesting past. Several of his foreign clients were NOT pro US. Of course, he also had clients here that made headlines. He was Bill Clinton's lawyer during the impeachment trial, he represented John Hinckley, the guy who tried to assassinate Reagan. (big money there, John Hinckley Sr. is in the oil business).

This nomination is a bit strange. Bill Clinton's foreign connections are relatively harmless, but were extensively scrutinized. Will Congress object to Craig's nomination?

Not sure why they should but then you never know in politics. The man is a lawyer...by definition he is going to associate with those with a questionable past. I don't think his cliant list should be an issue. Now, if you found out he served on a board of directors with some terrorists that might be an issue...or, it might not...

Shinseki's appointment is yet another "Bull's Eye" for Obama! The Obama family will spend Christmas in Hawaii. Perhaps Shinseki who is from Hawaii will be around, too.

Whoever Obama appoints, I hope they are all worthy of a $Trillion bailout or two. Lets preach cut credit card debt while our leaders do the opposite.I cant believe Obama's first action in office will be to spend more on one bailout then the complete cost of the Iraq war, amazing.. On a positive note, now elected, we must work united to better the country.

Now give me my bailout bucks!!!!

For those interested from the chat site. It has now been confirm in the Australian media that the reason why Obama could not live in the guest room of the White house for the last two weeks was that John Howard ex Australian Prime Minister had a previous booking.
