Tobias, you've only mentioned the first of the five solis--Sola Scriptura. The other four are Sola Fida, Sola Gratia, Solus Christus, and Soli Deo gloria. These Soli have to do with how man finds redemption/salvation in this world and are based mainly on Martin Luther's teachings.
Luther, given his time, had 95 good reasons for his reformations. He was an intelligent and learned professor who lectured on the Scriptures at The University at Wittenburg. He'd gone through a re-birth very similar to Paul the Apostle's--Luther was struck by lightening which led to his self-examinations.
Luther was also a politician. He wanted to spread his word to everyone which had some unintended consequences, like the Peasants' War.
Sola Scripturia teaches that the Bible is the only authoritative word of God. This implies that the Bible wasn't the only 'word' being used in the Church's teachings. If you read my post to thinker concerning the idea that the RCC is only obliged to believe the Pope when he speaks ex cathedra. When speaking 'from the seat,' the Pope draws on more than the Bible, yes. He draws on oral tradition, later written, based on Apostalic teachings. Remember, not everything is recorded in the Bible as we know it todayeither Catholic (in any of its forms) or Protestant.
This is probably the most important today, especially to Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians, and one of the most misunderstood by Protestants in general.
I'm not a theologian nor am I a practicing member of the RCC, so if I'm inaccurate in what I say, it's because I'm relying on my memory and my thinking about my faith, which may not strictly follow the thinking of the institution of the RCC.

My point, is of course, that without faith and God's Grace, we don't hear the fullness, we don't see the good news, we may not even be able to see ourselves in God's Word at all. So Scripture alone, used in the liturgy, used in sermons, used to establish our relationship with God .. is preconditioned on already having a relationship.
I agree Spryte, relationship is what it's all about. Everything else is almost inconsequential, IMO.
