I was hospitalized as an adult with mono, there was no sore throat, but there were other interesting physical symptoms. I smoked cigarettes at that time, and when I lit one up, it tasted horrible, and for a while it was easy to quit smoking.
The real problem I had with mono was the mental effects. It put me into a horrible frame of mind. One of those states where I wanted to make four a.am. phone calls to everyone who had ever done me the slightest wrong, and tell them what bastards they are.
And the night sweats. That was truly horrible. The poor nurses at Roosevelt hospital had to change my bedsheets three times a night.
The cure? Rest, as everyone has said, and food. Eat as much as you can of whatever you like, you really need food if you have mono.
