Found an interesting story from the Denver Post online: by David Harsanyi on September 6, 2008
This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.
Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story.
“What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags,” a Republican official emailed. “We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.”
I’m not sure what the DNC was supposed to do with unused hand-flags, frankly. But the Republicans are obviously questioning someone’s patriotism here. But one of the reader comments following the story was a real knee-slapper: What do you expect from a party that hates patriotism? The flag is the symbol of everything they hate. Of course, NONE of these are my words and, therefore, cannot be construed as being my opinions. I'm just repeating what other people said.

Thanks for sharing, Ray. Of course, NONE of these are my words and, therefore, cannot be construed as being my opinions. I'm just repeating what other people said. It's okay; you don't need to say what your opinion is; it has to be the same as anyone else's who reads that story. We feel at one with you, Ray. That "knee-slapper" was a good example.... those rabid partisans will say anything, no matter how vicious, to try to glorify themselves and denigrate their opponents, won't they. Funny at first, but then you start to feel sad for them. Yep. We feel the same as you do. All of us.

If what you suggest is Republican love of country is what America has been through in the past eight years, there's not a soul reading this who wouldn't vote Democratic.
There must be more to it than that. There must have been some good things they've done to sway half the American electorate in their favor.
"Keeping us safe from terror" is bogus, since we're not safe. We won't be safe no matter who is in power, or how many domestic telephones the administration taps.
But your suggestion that Republicans love America more than Democrats only means Republicans love their version of America, which, if the current President is to be believed, consists of signing-statements, authorization of torture, pre-emptive strikes and lowering your taxes. But Dax, Dax, I agree with you. I wasn't the one who said all that stuff. It was David Harsanyi at the Denver Post. I was merely reporting what HE said. Haven't you ever seen anyone do that before? (sigh)
